Norwich HEART is looking for people to become this year's Heritage Open Days Ambassadors! As a Heritage Open Days Ambassador, you can work in many different roles ranging from event stewardship, brochure distribution, tour guiding, office support, social media coverage, photography, collecting feedback and much more. This is a fantastic work experience opportunity where you can get to know your city better and gain new skills to improve your CV!
Successful volunteers will not only meet new people and gain a better understanding of heritage, but we would also be happy to write a reference for future use.
To be a Heritage Open Days volunteer, you will need:
HODs Ambassadors take on a variety of responsibilities and act as representatives both on the street and online. This role involves confident communication when dealing with members of the public. Ambassadors will distribute HODs brochures to various venues throughout Norwich and Norfolk including libraries, cafes, shops, pubs, arts organisations and Tourist Information Centres. You would have to be fairly familiar with the brochure before distributing it to passers-by on the street.
Ambassadors can also take on event stewardship responsibilities and work anytime from the 6th to 9th September as part of front of house operation. Tasks include greeting visitors to the venue (e.g. a medieval church) and giving them a leaflet containing information about the property. Some event stewards will have more interaction with members of the public by leading them on a short guided tour! Asking members to fill in feedback forms during their visit is essential for thorough evaluation after HODs.
A new exciting task HODs Ambassadors can get involved in this year will be acting as online representatives of Norwich HEART by maintaining a HODs blog leading up to the 6th – 9th September and updating twitter and facebook pages daily. You may need to liaise with photography volunteers to upload photos to flickr and the blog. We are keen for HODs Ambassadors to carry out interviews of this year's HODs participants to generate publicity via social media. This is an opportunity for you to develop your communication, marketing and writing skills!
There are other ways to get involved with HODs as well, come along and find out!
Bookings and publicity work begins in August although volunteers are welcome to begin earlier in the summer. Tasks vary from data entry, mailing, managing ticket bookings and general administration. Working as part of a team is important for this role and knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access would be helpful. Lots of tea and biscuits will be provided!
Photography volunteers visit various properties and events throughout the 6th to 9th September. A keen eye and aesthetic judgement would be useful. For this role, volunteers will need to have their own camera equipment. Photos created will become shared copyright with Norwich HEART and be used in future publications with credit given to the photographer.
