Welcome...

to The Norwich Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust, or HEART for short. Founded in 2004, we are a private, charitable company set up to act as an umbrella organisation for all of the fantastic and often unknown heritage on offer here in Norwich.

We are the single, co-ordinating organisation to strategically plan, regenerate, manage and promote all of the heritage resources in Norwich, from the mighty Norman Cathedral to the 32 Medieval churches peppering the City. We feel that Norwich deserves an international reputation for its unparalleled collection of historic buildings which represent a thousand years worth of continuous development and we’re working on lots of exciting projects to make this happen!

However our work isn’t just about promoting Norwich, we also want to promote the economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits of heritage based regeneration and as such we perform a role as a Best Practice Exemplar, both nationally and internationally, pushing the agenda of Heritage-led regeneration and providing concrete proof of it’s positive effect.

What are our objectives?

  • To establish Norwich as the UK’s premiere heritage city by 2012 and to achieve its recognition as an asset of universal value
  • To establish HEART as an international leader in heritage led regeneration by 2010

Why do we want to do it?

Because Norwich is an amazing heritage resource, the second city of England for hundreds of years, the proud owner of many beautiful and internationally important buildings and this should be adding wealth and prestige to the city, driving forward urban renaissance and creating a huge tourism bonus but too few people are aware of this and we want this to change.

Please explore the site to find out who we are, what we've done and why we did it, and the big plans we have for the future.
