Who We AreThe Norwich Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART), a registered, independent charity, emerged from a perceived need to fill a gap in heritage management in the city. This was not a criticism of the existing management, rather a growing realisation of what an amazing collection of buildings, artefacts, people and stories there are in the City and how, if they were unified under one ‘umbrella’, they would have greater presence and a far stronger story to tell.

We also plan to be a leader in heritage-led regeneration acting as an international standard of best practice for other cities to use for inspiration. We have already been used as a best practice case-study by English Heritage and the Trust is invited to give talks on our development plan all around the world, from Norway to Australia!

HEART's RemitHEART’s remit is to pull all of these strands together and to cultivate this city’s reputation, both nationally and internationally, as a premier heritage destination. Our role is to be/provide: The Knowledge – a comprehensive and integrated view of Norwich’s heritage and how the parts fit together; The Glue – to act as an umbrella to help co-ordinate all heritage agencies involved in Norwich into a unified and focussed force; The Vision Facilitator – to help develop a unified vision and delivery-plan for the city’s heritage; The Innovator – to pioneer positive changes in a sustainable way; The Funding Enabler – representing united Norwich heritage to national and international funding agencies; The Demonstrator – articulating the real benefits of heritage-based regeneration nationally and internationally, with Norwich as an example; The Promoter – presenting Norwich as a unified ‘product’ of universal stature.
