What We Do

Funding

As a private, not-for-profit, charitable company we are able to access funds not available to either the public or private sectors. So far we have raised over £2 million in funding for specific heritage projects in our development plan with further funding bids in the pipeline and new sources being researched.

Research

Our first research project, ‘Measuring the Benefits of Heritage Led Regeneration’, was intended to give us and other interested organisations a platform for proving the success of Heritage Regeneration, Economically, Environmentally, Socially and Culturally. Further projects so far have included feasibility studies looking into possible future projects and shaping the vision of what can be done with our fantastic range of heritage assets.

Promotion

Heritage Open Days has been a massive success for us. Chosen as the launch city for 2005, had over 120 venues open and more than 100,000 visitors through the doors. What better way to get people excited about the history of Norwich? These numbers have been bettered every year following, with over 170 events in 2007 and even more visitors.

We are also co-ordinating a series of leaflets for all of Norwich’s churches and the 12 iconic ‘ The Great and Good’ buildings: the Castle, the Anglican Cathedral, the Great Hospital, St Andrew’s and Blackfriars’ Halls, Dragon Hall, the Guildhall, the Assembly House, Marble Hall, St James’ Mill, the Roman Catholic Cathedral, City Hall and the Forum.

Knowledge

We are currently building a database of the ‘History of Norwich’ - a mammoth task for somewhere this interesting and historically important! The database will hold information on key events, people, buildings, artefacts, industries and more. It will hold photos and eventually we will be able to plot locations using GIS mapping. We also hold a database of experts within their field - if you know of anyone who should be added to this, please use the feedback form on the website.
