The Strings of Pearls refers to Norwich’s unique collections, sets and groupings, specifically:

Heritage related to belief focussing particularly around the unique set of pre Reformation churches and the non conformist tradition

Merchant Heritage, with particular reference to the textile industry, the people associated with it, where they lived and worked and their material legacy but also to include the theme of commerce, markets and retailing

Cultural Heritage and specifically the two dozen cultural superlatives reflected in people, events or collections

Innovation, featuring in particular the city’s industrial and commercial history, focussing on the ground breaking nature of developments in these fields

Defence and Trade Regulation, focussing on the walls and the river as defining influences in the city’s development

Subterranean Norwich, featuring the unique collection of undercrofts but also exploiting other important features beneath the streets

Who’s Who – an exploration of remarkable local people and visitors
