Project architects appointed

After intense competition for this prestigious appointment, we are very pleased to appoint Hopkins Architects to help us take the project forward.

Hopkins Architects, led by Director Andrew Barnett, along with their assembled team of other specialists, will now work alongside HEART to prepare the concept designs, outline specifications and costings, and to help inform consultations with users and negotiations over funding which will be needed at this preparatory stage of the project. They will also be in place to support the development of these proposals in more detail as the project progresses to later stages.

It is not the first time Hopkins Architects has worked on Norwich‘s iconic buildings; their projects include The Forum as well as the striking Refectory added to the cloister of Norwich Cathedral, where they are also currently working on the new Hostry. Their past projects nationally also include the Glyndebourne Opera House, the refurbishment of the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly, and Portcullis House, part of the Palace of Westminster. Appointing Hopkins Architects is an important milestone for the project and we look forward to their contribution to another of Norwich‘s iconic buildings.

HEART ran a formal competition under European tendering rules to appoint an architectural and design team for The Halls project in winter 2008/9. There were more than 30 expressions of interest from national and local architectural firms at the first stage, followed by a more formal competition in which five firms were invited to respond in more detail to a formal tender between January and March.
